Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Do you have a uniform you wear with each season? Like are you a jean shorts, white t-shirt, and flip flops gal most of the Summer? Or maybe a chunky sweater, skinny jeans, and booty type gal for Fall? And, do you gravitate towards the same colors so you can mix and match all your pieces, despite the season? I am definitely a uniform person and each season I try and add a few great pieces to compliment that seasons uniform. On top of that, I invest in great basics that can be worn year round - tank tops for Summer that can be worn as layers and under sweaters in Fall/Winter. My husband tries to convince me that most people live on a budget (I don't believe him ;) ), so I try and use my budget wisely. I personally love building and altering my wardrobe year to year, so check out my ideal Fall capsule wardrobe below.

Denim:

Everyone should own a pair of denim jeans that fit like a glove. You know, the type of jeans, that when you put them on, you feel like you could conquer the world. The type that were specifically made for your body. And if you're like me, and on a budget, my advice would be to pick one pair that fit perfectly, rather than buying a handful of pairs that are ill fitting. It has taken a few years, but I now have a pair of skinny, boyfriend and colored jeans that I'm obsessed with and I've linked them below. You may also think about going back to boot cut denim - very on trend for Fall.

Sweaters:

I love me a chunky sweater, but what I love more is the first day the weather actually turns and a chunky sweater is in order. Is there anything better? Personally, I think every woman needs a go-to cardigan that you can throw over everything, a classic cashmere sweater, and a cape/poncho sweater that can almost be worn as a coat. Living in Colorado, I get a ton of use out of sweaters as the weather can be pretty mild until late November and even early Spring, so these three must haves take me far during the chillier months of the year. I've linked a few options below.

JCrew Cashmere Sweater // Anthropologie Poncho // Abercrombie Cardigan

Fall Footwear:

Boots are made for walking, no? Okay, dumb joke, but if you read my blog post on bras, you know how I feel about comfortable footwear - it's an absolute MUST in my book. Crazily enough, I have trouble finding shoes, boots, flats, etc that do not give me blisters and can hold their own during a day of clocking 10, 000 steps (my daily goal). My mom is convinced I have misshapen feet because I'm incredibly particular about what I put on them, but life is too short to have feet that hurt (and an itchy bra :) ). My favorite Fall Footwear is linked below. All are tried and true and come highly recommended by yours truly.

Melissa Button Frye Boots // Ray Harness Frye Bootie // JCrew Mules

Basic Layers:

Basic layers are a wardrobe must. I mean they can be worn year round, they can make or break any outfit and they can be thrown on in an instant with a little jewelry and make you look effortlessly chic. I actually think Fall is the time to invest in basic layers, because that is what the season is all about - you leave your house in jeans and t-shirt and return with a sweater or scarf over the top by the end of the day. And if paired right, a basic white tee can be worn a million ways. You can find my favorite basic layers below.

Jemma Gauzy T Shirt // Zofina long sleeve tee // Estina Whisper Tank top

Fall Outerwear:

Fall jackets can be a challenge, especially since the temperature can be so variable. Luckily the same jackets can typically be worn in Spring, so it's worth the money to buy something that will last you a number of seasons as well as something versatile that can be worn with multiple outfits. I swear by a nice leather jacket, a light weight down coat, a versatile vest, and a denim jacket. I've invested in all these pieces and have barely replaced a single one in a number of years.
